Abstract

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive tumor arising from mesothelial cells forming the viscera lining. It is strongly associated with asbestos exposure. While mesothelioma can develop in any mesothelial layer, such as the peritoneum or pericardium, the pleural layer is most commonly affected, leading to malignant pleural mesothelioma. Among the various forms of asbestos, amosite and crocidolite are most strongly linked to the development of malignant mesothelioma.
